SMITH GOES TWO IN A ROW IN SUPERPRO

     Veteran Tom Smith took the lead from Jack Smith on lap 38 and went on to win the "Five Star Racing Bodies 75" SUPERPRO feature event Saturday night at Baer Field Speedway.

     Jack Smith and Steven Brooks brought the 20 car field down to the green with Smith jumping into the early lead. Tom Smith took second from Brooks on lap six and fast qualifier Mike Kugler grabbed fourth one lap later. Rick Everidge's terrible 2009 luck continued with mechanical failure on lap nine bringing out the first caution.

     Kugler and Brooks ran side by side for several laps but got together on lap 34 with both cars flying off the first turn and sending them both to the tail. During the caution, defending SUPERPRO champion Tommy Cook went to the pit area with brake problems.

     Tom Smith moved around Jack Smith on lap 38 for the lead and Jack Landis grabbed second on lap 45. At the 50 lap mark it was Tom Smith, Landis, Jack Smith, Kyle Hayden, and Jason Dietsch. Hayden took second on lap 55 and Derek Bischak grabbed fourth on lap 55. Kugler was making a mad dash through the field after restarting in the rear on lap 34 and moved into seventh on lap 55.

     Dietsch and Jack Smith brought out the final caution on lap 73 bringing up a two lap shootout between Tom Smith and Landis. Tom Smith took the checkers in first followed by Landis, Hayden, Kugler, Bischak, Andy Marchiniak, Kevin Todd, Mark Hankowsky, Brooks, and Jack Smith.

     Kugler was the Aluminum Racing Products Fast qualifier with a lap of 17.896 seconds around the half mile paved oval. Hayden was the Turbo Blue Racing Gas “Rookie of the Race”, Matt Hall won the Penske Racing Shocks "Shocking Move or the Race" award , Marchiniak was the All Star Performance Hard Charger, and Everidge was the recipient of the Aluminum Racing Products "Hard Luck" award.
