SMITH WINS AT BAER FIELD SPEEDWAY

May 30, 2009

Tom Smith took the lead on lap 42 and held off Mike Kugler to win the Aluminum Racing Products 75 SUPERPRO Series feature Saturday night at Baer Field Speedway in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Two time defending SUPERPRO champion Tommy Cook and Steven Brooks brought the field to the green with Cook jumping into the early lead. Rick Everidge, Jason Dietsch and Smith moved behind ook on lap four dropping Brooks to fifth. Brian Bauman brought out the red flag on lap 6 with heavy impact with the front stretch wall.

The running order remained the same until lap 22 when Dietsch and Smith moved around Everidge for second and third and Jack Landis and Kugler grabbed fourth and fifth one lap later. Landis and Smith got together in turn two on lap 28 with Smith spinning. In a sportsman like gesture, Landis admitted fault and moved to the rear on the restart with Smith restarting in second.

Smith moved inside of Cook for the lead on lap 41. After racing side by side for several laps, Smith assumed the point. On lap 50, it was Smith, Cook, Kugler , Brooks, NASCAR veteran Rich Bickle, who had started twelveth.

On lap 71, Zion Schaub blew a tire and spun on the front straight collecting sixth place runner Al Smith Jr., putting him on the hook for the second straight race. At the checkers, it was Smith, Kugler, Brooks, Bickle, and Tommy Cook. Landis recovered to sixth followed by Dietsch, Andy Marciniak, Terry Bogusz and Derek Bischak.ugler was the Aluminum Racing Products fast qualifier of the 26 car field with a lap of 17.608 seconds around the half mile oval. Kyle Hayden was the Corrigan Oil - Turbo Blue Racing Gas "Rookie of the Race", Bickle grabbed the Allstar Performance - Lane Automotive "Hard Charger" award, Bauman received the Penske "Shocking Move of the Race" and Paul Jakubik, who was involved in a hard crash in hot laps, was the winner of the ARP "Hard Luck" award.

2008 "Rookie of the Year" Matt Hall won the "Racing Junk - Team Tech Motorsports" B Main over Schaub, Danny Leeck and Bauman.

Round three of the 2009 SUPERPRO Series 2009 Championship returns to Baer Field on June 20 for the running of the "Five Star Racing Bodies 75" For more information, go to the web at www.superproracing.com.
