LANDIS WINS 2009 SEASON OPENER AT ANGOLA May 23, 2009
Edgerton, Ohio veteran Jack Landis took the lead on lap one and never looked back as he won the season opening Allstar Performance - Lane Automotive 75 at Angola Speedway.
Landis and rookie Mark Hankosky led the field to the green with Landis grabbing the point. Third fast qualifier Rick Everidge became the first casuality of the event dropping out on lap 14. Andy Marchiniak, Mike Kugler and Tom Smith began to make their way up through the field.
At the half way point it was Landis, Marchiniak, Kugler, Hankosky, and Smith. On lap 49, two time defending champion Tommy Cook broke a trailing arm and brother Al Cook, Jr. flew off the backstretch to avoid, retiring both cars from the event. On lap 50 Jason Dietsch moved into the top five and on lap 70 he moved past Smith for fourth. At the finish it was Landis, Marchiniak, Kugler, Dietsch, and Smith. Derek Bischak, Hankosky, Kyle Hayden, Steven Brooks, and Terry Bogusz rounded out the top ten.
Tommy Cook was the Aluminum Racing Products fast qualifier with a time of 14.55 seconds around the high banked three eights mile track and an average speed of 92.758 miles per hour. Hankosky was the Turbo Blue Rookie of the Race, rookie Tyler Strickland gets the ARP Hard Luck award and Al Cook, Jr. wins the Penske Shocking Move of the Race award.
SUPERPRO returns to action this Saturday, May 30 at the Baer Field Speedway in Ft. Wayne, Indiana for the running of the Aluminum Racing Products 75. Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and Front Wheel Drives will also be in action. Gates open at 5 pm and racing begins at 7:30 pm.
