lead from
Kevin Todd on lap 42 and went on to win the "Dietsch

lap 20 when a flat tire slowed him and allowed Todd to take
the point. At lap 25, Todd led Al Cook Jr., Landis, Tommy
Cook and fast qualifier Jason Dietsch.

COOK
FINALLY DRINKS FROM SUPERPRO GOLD CUP
Local favorite and 2007 SUPERPRO champion Tommy Cook took
advantage of a late race misfortune to Jack Landis and won
the International Gold Cup 100 Presented by Five Star Racing
Bodies for SUPERPRO Series late model stock cars Friday
night at Baer Field Speedway in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Point leader Rick Everidge and Al Cook, Jr. led the 20 car
field to the green with Everidge jumping to the early lead.
Landis and Tommy Cook made their way through the field with
Landis taking the lead on lap six. Tommy Cook moved inside
Landis on lap seven and the two veterans put on a classic
side by side battle to lap 25 when Landis back to the point.
Cook backed off until lap 40 when he dove under Landis again
and they raced side by side for the next 15 laps.
At the halfway mark, it was Landis, Tommy Cook, Jason
Dietsch, Al Cook and Everidge. Dietsch moved around Cook for
second on lap 59 and began to pressure Landis. Dietsch took
over where Cook left off as he and Landis raced side by side
for many laps. On lap 83, Dietsch’s hopes for victory ended
with a spin off of turn two.
On the restart, Tommy Cook moved inside Landis again and
they were side by side until lap 95 when Landis gained the
advantage. Landis looked like a sure winner until his engine
blew coming down for the white flag, ending his night. Tommy
Cook was able to hold off brother Al on the restart and
capture his first Gold Cup in front of a frenzied hometown
crowd. Kevin Todd was third followed by Derek Bischak, and
defending race champion Rob Buckley. Everidge, Colin Toland,
Doug True, Mike Kugler and Matt Hall rounded out the top
ten.
Tommy Cook was the Aluminum Racing Products - Corrigan Oil
Fast Qualifier with a time of 17.65 seconds around the ½
mile paved oval. He also split the AllStar Performance-Lane
Automotive Hard Charger Award with Todd with Landis
receiving the ARP Hard Luck Award. Toland was the winner of
the Penske Shocks “Shocking Move of the Race”.

lead. 2007 champion Tommy Cook moved around Hall for the top
spot on lap 16 and current point leader Rick Everidge passed
Cook for the point on lap 26. Seventh starting Finley got by

SMITH SACKS
SUPERPRO FOES AT BAER FIELD
Medina, Ohio veteran Jack Smith was
looking at a fourth place finish with 10 laps to go during the
SUPERPRO Series "Aluminum Racing Products 75" Saturday night at
Baer Field Speedway. But an incident between the leaders and a
flat tire put Smith in front for the final ten laps and went on
to victory.
Last year's Rookie of the Year Colin Tolin and "Smooth" Al Cook,
Sr. brought the field to Scott Stovall's green flag with Tolin
taking the lead. Rick Everidge moved into second on lap 13 and
grabbed the lead on lap 21. At the half way point, it was
Everidge, Jason Dietsch, Tolin, Rob Buckley, and rookie Matt
Hall. The order remained the same until lap 55 when Toland went
high and dropped from third to sixth.
Dietsch and Everidge battled for the lead with Dietsch moving in
front on lap 56 with Everidge taking it back on lap 57.
Meanwhile new daddy Rob Buckley moved to third and Smith, who
came from the rear after a lap 16 tire change, grabbed fourth.
The race took a dramatic turn when Everidge and Dietsch got
together in turn 1, causing a caution and sending both to the
rear. Buckley's chance for victory was short lived as a flat
sent him to the pits and then to the rear of the field. Smith
then inherated the lead and cruised the final 10 laps to the
win. Rookie Joe Fadke finished second followed by Toland, Cook,
Sr. and Mike Kugler. Everidge, Buckley, Hall, Royce Mason and
Zion Schaub rounded out the top ten.
Hometown favorite Tommy Cook set a new track record in Corrigan
Oil qualifying with a lap of 17.589 seconds on the half mile
paved oval. But a crash during hot laps eliminated him from the
feature event and earned him the ARP "Hard Luck" award." Fadke
earned the AllStar Performance "Hard Charger" award and Everidge
grabbed the Penske Shocks "Shocking Move of the Race" with many
saves of a loose race car during the middle stages of the event.
Race number three of the 2008 SUPERPRO Series will be on June 21
at the Springport Motor Speedway with the running of the "Lipari
Foods 75" on the 3/8ths. mile oval. For more information, go the

LANDIS
LANDS SUPERPRO OPENER AT ANGOLA
Veteran Jack Landis took the lead at the
mid way point and held off Jason Dietsch to win the SUPERPRO
Series "Engineered Systems 75" Saturday night at Angola Motor
Speedway.
2007 Rookie of the Year Colin Toland and Kevin Todd brought the
field to the green with Todd taking the early lead. 2005
SUPERPRO champ Rob Buckley saw his bad luck from 2007 continue
when a rear end gear broke on lap 3, ending his evening. Rick
Everidge moved around Todd for the lead on lap 9.
A lap 20 altercation between Mike Kugler and Toland put Kugler
out and Toland followed three laps later. Landis wrestled the
lead from Everidge at the midway point with Dietsch following in
second. Dietsch was able to pull beside Landis on several
occassions but had to settle for second at the checkers. They
were followed by Everidge, Tommy Cook with a tremendous drive
from the rear of the field after a lap 23 spin, and newcomer Joe
Fadke. Todd, Al Cook, Jr., rookies Zion Schaub and Matt Hall,
and Paul Jakubik rounded out the top ten.
Landis captured the Aluminum Racing Products - Corrigan Oil Fast
Time award with a lap of 14.132 seconds (95.528 miles per hour)
around the 3/8ths. mile paved oval. Landis also grabbed the
AllStar Performance Hard Charger Award and Buckley was the
winner of the Aluminum Racing Products Had Luck Award. Tommy
Cook was given the Penske Racing Shocks "Shocking Move of the
Race" award with a miraculous save from the front stretch wall
after colliding with Toland during the event.
The SUPERPRO Series moves to the half mile Baer Field Speedway
next Saturday night May 31st. for the running of the "Aluminum
Racing Products 75". Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Mini Stocks
will also be on the card. Race time is 7:30.
